March U.S. Safety Recalls by Volvo (1), Mercedes-Benz (1), General Motors (2), Mitsubishi (1), and Subaru (1)

The following March 2008 U.S. safety recalls were published by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
By Volvo division (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .21) of Ford Motor Company:
(1) 1,114 2007 Volvo C30, C70, S40, and V50 passenger vehicles for a layer in the master cylinder that may cause speedy aging of a rubber seal, a resulting internal leak of brake fluid, and eventually a complete loss of braking.
By the Mercedes-Benz division (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .24) of Daimler AG:
(2) 3,283 2008 Mercedes S-Class and CL-Class passenger vehicles for damaged transistors which when not functioning properly may cause a crash.
By General Motors Corporation (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .31):
(3) 4,586 2008 Cadillac STS and STS-V passenger vehicles for a tire pressure monitoring system that doesn't work as required by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 138.
(4) 207,542 1997-2003 Buick Regal and Pontiac Grand Prix passenger vehicles equipped with a 3.8-liter supercharged 6-cylinder engine for an engine oil leak that may cause an under-the-hood fire. GM recommends that owners not park their vehicles in a garage, car port or any other structure.
By Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .70):
(5) 120,000 2004-2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor sport-utility vehicles for an ignition system that may permit the removal of the key without placing the gearshift into park.
By Subaru division of Fuji Heavy Industries, Ltd (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .77):
(6) 36,791 2002-2003 Subaru Impreza wagons for a rear gate stay that may detach.

Addendum: Although this site covers only cars, SUVs, minivans, sport-utility vehicles, and pickup trucks, NHTSA's Monthly Recall Reports web page covers motorcycles, large trucks, trailers, travel trailers, school buses, city buses, and motor homes. Consequently, concerned parents may wish to regularly visit NHTSA's monthly recall reports to find out what school buses have been recalled and then enquire at their local bus companies to find out whether the repairs have been made or when they will be made.

Site manager estimates that the Yahoo search engine is presently 15 to 20 times better than Google, but is only 7% as good as Google was prior to the advent of large expenditures on internet advertising by the major automobile manufacturers. Info is a metasearch engine that scans 14 search engines for results. DMOZ is the product of thousands of volunteers who select out the better sites that the web has to offer; consequently, there is an assurance of greater quality than the mean of what a search engine offers within the first 10 results of a phrase search. At Google, a web page of a dominant information provider may not appear in the first 1,000 entries, maybe the first 10,000 entries, of an applicable phrase search, at least since the advent of significant internet advertising.
