AutoOnInfo.net  March 2008 Park Those Buick Regals and Pontiac Grand Prixs on the Street! Separately, NHTSA Upgrades Investigation of Chrysler Pacifica Fires. By James B. Bleeker General Motors Corporation (with a Reliability Percentrank average of .31) is recalling 207,542 1997-2003 Buick Regal GSs and Pontiac Grand Prix GDPs for occasional oil leaks onto the exhaust manifold and resultant fires. A GM spokesperson stated that the oil leaks have caused 267 vehicle fires with 6 injuries and 17 fires to structures. The spokesperson said that GM has sent letters to owners warning them not to park their cars in garages or carports until parts are available to repair the things, but was unable to say when the parts would be available. The spokesperson also said that there has been a "very, very low" incidence of fires while driving. Separately, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has upgraded its investigation of complaints of engine fires in Chrysler LLC's 2007 Chrysler Pacificas. NHTSA said that it has received 3 complaints and that Chrysler reports having received 25 complaints and 166 warranty claims. It also said that Chrysler attributes the problem to a seal that leaks power-steering fluid. Chrysler has a Reliability Percentrank average of .38. Both Chrysler and GM have quite a ways to go to match Ford Motor Company's incendiary saga that has to date yielded 9-10 million recalls and may yield another 6 million, or so.
