December U.S. Safety Recalls by Volvo (2), Mercedes-Benz (1), General Motors (1), Chrysler (1), Ford (1), Porsche (1), Suzuki (1), Nissan (1), Honda (2), and Toyota (1)

The following December 2007 U.S. safety recalls were published by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
By Volvo division (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .21) of Ford Motor Company:
(1) 37,000 2007-2008 Volvo XC90 sport-utility vehicles for an engine control module that may shut down the climate control module after the ignition key is inserted.
(2) 1,695 2008 Volvo XC90 sport-utility vehicles for a wheel information label that omitted information required by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 120.
By the Mercedes-Benz division (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .24) of Daimler AG:
(3) 3 2007 Mercedes SLR McLaren vehicles for a windshield that was installed without a primer or activator.
By General Motors Corporation (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .31):
(4) 275,936 2005-2007 Cadillac CTS, SRX and STS passenger vehicles, 2006-2007 Pontiac Solstice convertibles, and 2007 Saturn Sky convertibles for a rear axle pinion seal that may leak fluid and cause loss of motive power.
By Chrysler LLC (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .38):
(5) 576,418 2001-2002 Dodge Dakota pickup trucks, Dodge Durango sport-utility vehicles, and Dodge Ram vans and 2002 Dodge Ram pickup trucks equipped with an automatic transmission for an ignition/park interlock system that may become inoperative and permit the shift lever to be shifted out of park without the ignition key inserted and without the brake pedal depressed.
By Ford Motor Company (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .50):
(6) 1,176,000 1997-2003 Ford F-Super Duty, E-Series, and Excursion vehicles with a 7.3-liter diesel engine for a camshaft position sensor that may function intermittently and cause the engine to stall.
By Porsche AG (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .58):
(7) 37 2008 Porsche 911 GT3 and GT3RS vehicles for an "inappropriate" installation of the switch console for the active-suspension-management and traction-control switches that may give rise to erroneous signals.
By Suzuki Motor Corporation (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .59):
(8) 40,424 2006-2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara sport-utility vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission for a shift lever that may be shifted out of park without the ignition key inserted and without the brake pedal depressed.
By Nissan Motor Company (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .70):
(9) 114 2007-2008 Nissan Altima passenger vehicles for a tire pressure monitoring system that may have been deactivated if the body control module was replaced during service at the dealership.
By Honda Motor Company (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .84):
(10) 34,300 2007-2008 Honda Fit hatchbacks sold in or currently registered in the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia for a wire harness (for the occupant detection system and the occupant position detection system) that may corrode and break due to its routing under the carpet on the driver's floorboard.
(11) 43,200 2005-2008 Acura RL sedans for a power steering hose that may deteriorate prematurely, leak steering fluid, and cause a fire.
By Toyota Motor Corporation (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .89):
(12) 15,616 2007 Toyota Tundra 4-wheel-drive pickup trucks for a slip yoke that may have been insufficiently hardened.

Consequently, concerned parents may wish to regularly visit NHTSA's monthly recall reports to find out what school buses have been recalled and then enquire at their local bus companies to find out whether the repairs have been made or when they will be made.
