November U.S. Safety Recalls by General Motors (3), BMW (1), Ford (1), Nissan (2), Honda (2), and Toyota (1)

The following November 2007 U.S. safety recalls were published by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
By General Motors Corporation (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .31):
(1) 20,514 2001 Saturn L-Series passenger vehicles equipped with a 2.2-liter, 4-cylinder engine for a timing chain that may delink.
(2) 57,100 2007 Chevrolet Equinox and Pontiac Torrent sport-utility vehicles not equipped with option roof-rail air bags or optional sunroof for a risk of head injury exceeding Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 201.
(3) 11,975 2001 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks equipped with an 8.1-liter, 8-cylinder engine for a crankshaft position sensor that may work intermittently or fail completely and consequently cause the engine to stall.
By the Mini Cooper division (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .15) of BMW AG (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .36):
(4) 320 2007 Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper S small passenger vehicles for improper labeling of tire size and corresponding tire pressure.
By Ford Motor Company (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .50):
(5) 45 2008 Ford Focus small cars, Ford Expedition sport-utility vehicles, and Ford F-250 and F-350 pickup trucks for a driver air bag that may not properly deploy.
By Nissan Motor Company (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .70):
(6) 653,910 2002 and 2005-2006 Nissan Altima and Nissan Sentra passenger vehicles equipped with a 2.5-liter engine for an electronic control module that may not be able to diagnose a brief interruption in the signal from the crankshaft position sensor and may consequently cause the engine to stall without warning.
(7) 1,115 2008 Nissan Xterra sport-utility vehicles for an antilock-brake-system/vehicle-dynamic-control actuator that may contain two balls rather than the desired one and thus cause a reduction in brake effectiveness.
By Honda Motor Company (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .84):
(8) 6,545 1998-2007 Honda Civic GXs (the compressed natural gas passenger vehicles) for a possible uneven heating of the CNG tank in the event of a severe interior fire in the area of the rear seat, which uneven heating may prevent the pressure-relief device from venting the contents of the tank as designed.
(9) 410 2008 Honda Ridgeline pickup trucks for a hood-support rod base hole that was not punched to specification and may cause the hood to collapse.
By Toyota Motor Corporation (with a 1999-2003 Reliability Percentrank average of .89):
(8) 34,343 2006 Lexus GS and IS vehicles for two fuel pipes that may crack, leak fuel and cause a fire.

Consequently, concerned parents may wish to regularly visit NHTSA's monthly recall reports to find out what school buses have been recalled and then enquire at their local bus companies to find out whether the repairs have been made or when they will be made.
