June U.S. Safety Recalls by Volkswagen (2), Mercedes-Benz (1), General Motors (1), Volvo (1), Chrysler (3), Ford (2), Suzuki (1), and Nissan (2)

The following June 2007 U.S. safety recalls were published by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
By Volkswagen AG (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .22):
(1) 58,900 2006 2.5-liter-gasoline-engine Volkswagen Jettas for a plastic tab on the windshield washer fluid reservoir that may chafe the fuel line and cause a fuel leak.
(2) 3,100 2008 Volkswagen Toureg sport-utility vehicles for an owner's manual that fails to include the tire-pressure-monitoring-system instructions.
By DaimlerChrysler AG's Mercedes-Benz division (now Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz division) (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .26):
(3) 19,924 2000-2004 Mercedes-Benz CL Class coupes and S Class sedans for an active-body-control high pressure distribution hose that may corrode and cause combustible fluid to leak near the catalytic converter.
By General Motors Corporation (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .32):
(4) 6,213 2007 Chevrolet Equinox and Pontiac Torrent sport-utility vehicles for a glass primer (that is intended to hold stationary glass, including the windshield, in place) that is inadequate to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 212.
By Ford Motor Company's Volvo division (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .32):
(5) 38,700 2003-2004 Volvo V70 wagons and S60 sedans for soldered joints on the fuel-pressure-sensor circuit board that may crack and thereby cause the engine to misfire or stall.
By DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group (now Chrysler LLC) (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .40):
(6) 798 2007-2008 Chrysler Sebrings and 2008 Dodge Avengers for front-seat-track-position sensors of the air bag system that may not function properly and thereby increase the risk of injury.
(7) 39 2007 Dodge and Freightliner 2500 and 3500 trucks for a window air bag module diffuser that may crack on air bag inflation.
(8) 5,062 2007 34-gallon-fuel-tank Dodge Ram 1500 pickup trucks for fuel tanks that fail to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 301 and increase the risk of tank damage, fuel leakage, and speedy combustibility.
By Ford Motor Company (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .48):
(9) 3,534 2007 Lincoln Town Car and 2008 Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis sedans for a front wheel bearing and hub assembly that may fracture and cause the wheel to separate from the vehicle.
(10) 203 2007 F-150 pickup trucks for a depression inside the fuel tank and at the fuel tank seam that may lead to fuel leakage.
By Suzuki Motor Corporation (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .48):
(11) 921 2007 Suzuki XL-7 sport-utility vehicles (cousin to the recalled Chevrolet Equinox noted above) for a glass primer (that is intended to hold stationary glass, including the windshield, in place) that is inadequate to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 212.
By Nissan Motor Company (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .73):
(12) 1,438 2007 Nissan Quest minivans for a front-suspension-assembly bolt that may not have been retightened to specification after assembly inspection and may cause noise, vibration, and loss of steering.
(13) 140,582 2007 Nissan Altima sedans for an engine air filter that may ignite.

Consequently, concerned parents may wish to regularly visit NHTSA's monthly recall reports to find out what school buses have been recalled and then enquire at their local bus companies to find out whether the repairs have been made or when they will be made.
