Plaintiffs in Lawsuit Say GM Flunked a Recall

The windshield wipers in a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe, owned by Timothy and Gloria Owen, a Jefferson City, Florida couple, failed during a storm in October 2004. They asked General Motors Corporation to foot the $92 repair bill; GM refused; they sued in federal Court and are seeking class action status. They say that the automaker should have recalled 7.5 million pickup trucks, vans, and sport-utility vehicles for faulty wiper circuit boards and motor covers, rather than the 1.7 million in 2003.
