The Flipping Explorers: More Bad News for Ford's Defense Attorneys

In a trial in Mississippi in February of this year, plaintiffs introduced Ford Motor Company's test results regarding Ford Explorer's rollover risk for a variety of tires. These showed that the Explorer tipped up on two wheels using tires from an assortment of manufacturers, including, among others, Goodyear, Uniroyal, and Continental, and were not restricted to Firestone tires.
Such tipping may be valuable supplementary evidence for plaintiffs in the hundreds of outstanding cases involving flipped Explorers. These lawsuits, combined with a dwindling customer base, may push Ford into a Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization, although Ford will almost certainly try to spread the jury awards over several years.
From the news summaries of jury decisions that site manager has read, Ford's rollover cases appear frequently to involve imprudent behavior or one or more legal infractions, or both, by the driver, so Ford has its defenses, although juries appear not to have been too receptive to such, at least when youth are involved.
