Toyota Dominates Auto on Info's Rosters of High Mileage Vehicles; Honda Places Second: Another Auto Manufacturer Durability Award for Each
As of July 10, 2005, Toyota Motor Corporation had manufactured ten of the twenty highest mileage vehicles on Auto on Info's high mileage rosters. Honda Motor Company placed second with a total of four of the top twenty.
Toyota's ten vehicles included one Camry, one Corolla, one 4Runner, two Celicas, and five pickups. Of the 5 pickups, one was a Tacoma and the remaining four predated Toyota's naming pickup models. The model years of Toyota's top ten ranged from 1978 to 1997, with 8 of the vehicles spanning the decade of the 1980s.
Honda's four vehicles included two Accords, one Prelude, and one Acura Integra. All four vehicles were between the model years 1987 and 1991.
Toyota's dominance of the top twenty list has declined a bit from 2002, while Honda's total has improved. On July 10, 2002, Toyota had 12 of the top 20; on July 10, 2003, 11; on July 10, 2004, 10; on July 10, 2005, 10. On July 10, 2002, Honda had 0 of the top 20; on July 10, 2003, 2; on July 10, 2004, 2; on July 10, 2005, 4.
The increasing prevalence of Honda vehicles suggests that by the late 1980s or early 1990s Honda Motor Company's products may have have matched Toyota's in durability.
When the twenty highest mileage list is restricted to vehicles that were 20 years old or older as of the date of last update, the list of 20 shrinks to 6 - 4 Toyotas and 2 Mercedes-Benz.
Of the current list of the 20 highest mileage vehicles, 1 has mileage in excess of 600,000, 6 have mileage in excess of 500,000, 19 have mileage in excess of 400,000, and all have mileage in excess of 395,000.
