GM Expands 2005 Safety Problem Recall Lead over Ford with Recall of 292,000 Saturns; Mitsubishi Adds a Tad to Its 2005 Recall List

In the U.S., General Motors Corporation is recalling 291,652 2000-2002 Saturn L-Series sedans and wagons for defective rear lights. Extended use of the rear lights may distort the plastic housing and the distortion may cause the brake and tail lights to fail.

GM dumped the Saturn L-Series from the Saturn line in January, as few people wanted to buy them.
Separately, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated that Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is recalling 1,151 2006 Eclipse cars for a defective brake booster and master cylinder that may cause brake failure.
