Park That Ford on the Street!

KPRC of Houston, Texas reported that the fire marshal's office of Harris County, Texas has confirmed that a fire at a Harris County home originated in the engine of a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck. In March of this year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration commenced an investigation into Ford Motor Company's 1995-1999 and 2001-2002 F-150 pickup trucks and 1997-1999 and 2001-2002 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator sport utility vehicles due to 218 complaints of engine fire. Ford has already issued a recall on model year 2000 for the same problem. (See "NHTSA Begins Investigating 3.7 Million Ford Pickup Trucks and SUVs: Oh Dear! The Garage Is Ablaze." An auto safety expert with Safety Research & Strategies has recommended that these vehicles be parked away from the home until the matter is resolved.
