By James B. Bleeker
Toyota Motor Corporation garnered 9 spots, or 47% of the entries, on Consumer Reports' owner satisfaction Quick Pick list. Three models were from the Lexus line - the Lexus GX470 mid-sized sport utility vehicle, the Lexus LS430 sedan, and the Lexus RX 330 mid-sized sport utility vehicle; six models were from the Toyota line - the Toyota 4Runner mid-sized sport utility vehicle, the Toyota Highlander mid-sized sport utility vehicle, the Toyota Land Cruiser large sport utility vehicle, the Toyota Prius gas-electric hybrid 4-door hatchback, the Toyota Sienna minivan, and the Toyota Tundra full-sized pickup truck (regular cabin, extended cabin, and crew cabin). Some photographs, with links, of these models appear below.

Honda Motor Company garnered 5 spots, or 26% of the entries, on CR's owner satisfaction Quick Pick list. Consumer Reports lists two criteria for owner satisfaction Quick Pick selection: (1) A high score on its performance test and (2) The highest owner satisfaction rating per the annual survey of its membership.
The remaining five models originally making the 2005 owner satisfaction Quick Pick list are the BMW M3 sports car, the Mazda3 i small car, the Nissan Titan full-sized pickup truck, the Subaru Forester small 4-door sport utility vehicle, and the Subaru Impreza WRX sporty car. The Mazda3 has been pulled from Consumer Reports' recommended list because it earned a rating of "poor" in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's side-impact crash tests1; for the same reason, it may have been pulled from CR's Quick Pick lists as well.
By manufacturer, the entries are divided thusly:
Percentage of Original Entries on Consumer Reports 2005 Owner Satisfaction Quick Pick List, by Manufacturer Manufacturer Percentage Toyota 47% Honda 26% Subaru 11% Nissan 5% Mazda* 5% BMW 5% Big Three and all others 0% * Mazda's one entry, the Mazda3 i, may have been pulled from Consumer Reports' Owner Satisfaction Quick Pick List due to a "poor" side-impact crash test rating by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Insurance Institute's rating did cause Consumer Reports to pull the Mazda3 from its recommended list.1 1 "11 of 13 Small Cars Tested Get Lowest Crash Rating," Detroit Free Press, March 7, 2005, http://www.freep.com/money/autonews/crash7e_20050307.htm and "Consumer Reports Pulls Focus As Pick," Detroit Free Press, March 8, 2005, http://www.freep.com/money/autonews/consumer8e_20050308.htm
