Toyota and Honda Again Dominate Consumer Reports Good Bets List
Toyota Motor Corporation's car and truck models are again the most prevalent on Consumer Reports' Good Bets list for used car selection. The auto manufacturer accounts for 35.2% of the models on the list - 25.9% are from the Toyota line and 9.3% are from the Lexus line. Fourteen of the sixteen Toyota models having a reliability table made the list; five of the eight Lexus models having a reliability table made the list.
The 2005 CR Good Bets list has two criteria: (1) Better-than-average reliability over several or more years between 1997 and 2004 and (2) Good performance on Consumer Reports' road tests. Some of the five Toyota and Lexus models not making the list may have been excluded because of too few years of data.
Honda Motor Company's car and truck models are the second most prevalent on the CR Good Bets list. They account for 20.4% of the models on the list - 11.1% are from the Honda line and 9.3% are from the Acura line. Six of the eight Honda models having a reliability table made the list; five of the six Acura models having a reliability table made the list. Again, one or more models may not have made the list due to an insufficient number of years of data.
Together, Toyota and Honda models account for more than half (55.6%) of all models on the Good Bets list.
The third most prevalent manufacturer on the Good Bets list is Nissan. Nissan's Infiniti line, Fuji Heavy Industries' Subaru line, and Mazda's Mazda line are all tied for the fifth most prevalent line on the list, each accounting for four of the list's entries.
Each manufacturer's percentage of entries on the CR Good Bets list appears below.
