The ratings and rankings are for year 2010 and use the statistics
found in the Used-Cars-to-Avoid table and the
reliability charts of the April 2010 issue of Consumer Reports,
likely the most respected and followed source of
automobile-quality information in North America.

Highlights
Some interesting highlights of automobile brand and manufacturer quality
in 2010 are:
1. Toyota Motor Corporation's Scion, Toyota, and Lexus
brands, Honda Motor Company's Acura and Honda brands, and Nissan Motor Company's Infiniti
constituted the Top 6 by both of the quality rankings used in this
section.
2. Brands of General Motors Corporation and the Chrysler
Group accounted for well over half of the Bottom 10 brands by both quality rankings. By
one of the quality measures, GM accounted for 5 of the
worst 8 brands.
3. All three brands of the Chrysler Group
placed in the bottom half by both quality measures.
All of the
several brands of General Motors placed in the
bottom half by both quality
measures, save one brand that placed in the top half by one of
the two quality measures.
4. All three of the North American brands of
Ford Motor Company placed in the top half by one quality
measure, and two of the three placed in the
top half by the other
quality measure.
5. After placing in the Bottom 10 in 2005
and the Top 10 in 1995, the Mercedes-Benz brand placed in the
Middle 11 in 2010.
6. Toyota Motor Corporation and Honda Motor Company
were the two automobile manufacturers to
place in the Top
3 by both quality rankings.
7. General Motors Corporation and the Chrysler Group
were the two automobile manufacturers to place in the
Bottom 3 by both quality measures.
